Fiona Carrick
This run and record attempt is dedicated to my sister-in-law Fiona who died of cancer on March 30th 2008. Fiona demonstrated rare courage and dignity in battling the greatest challenge one can face. Always good humoured, smiling, upbeat and optimistic throughout her illness, Fiona only looked for positives in all that she encountered. She also had the remarkable presence of mind to know when her final day was upon her.
Fiona had a Degree in Psychology and Sociology and worked as a librarian. Her untimely death at only 35 years of age is a tragedy that puts life into perspective for all who knew her. It is a particularly challenging time for her 11-year-old son Cian, but he is facing it with the type of bravery his mother would be proud of. I'll endeavour to run the distance from Mizen to Malin as quickly as possible in Fiona's memory.
