Day 6 Derry to Malin Head
Richard started running today from Derry. At Quigley's Point he had a short rest again to try and recharge the batteries. After reaching Carndonagh, the 352-mile point, he grimaced and ran 8 miles quite quickly and without stopping. He now had only 5 miles remaining over the final hills that lead to Ireland's northermost point.
He reached Malin Head at 8.20 pm, thereby taking an overall time of 5 days 13 hours and 20 minutes, a new record though not under 5 days as he originally hoped.
It was a cause of celebration and relief for the small group assembled, which included Ireland's best female ultrarunner - Helena Crossan. The Irish national television broadcaster, RTE, was at hand to film the finish for its news bulletin.
Over €30,000 has been raised for Camp Claddagh to date.
Richard has completed the run in a time of 5 days 13 hours and 20 minutes.
